Every toddler has his or her own taste of eating. As a mother try to identify your baby requirements. The food prepared for a toddler should be hygienic. They choose foods that are attractive. You can not keep on feeding the baby with the same food daily. They demand different food and tasty food each time they consume. The toddler food must include protein, calcium, iron, vitamins and fibre. By providing a balanced toddler food, the growth rate will be good.
Reduce the quantity of cow milk provided to the toddlers as it does not contain all the required amount of protein, calcium, iron and vitamins. Excess milk to the toddlers may result in iron deficiency. If they consume more and more amount of milk daily instead of food then they will not be hungry and avoid to have food.
The balanced diet of toddler food:
Fats & Sugars
Fats & sugars include Ghee, Butter, Oil, Sugar and Jaggery. The toddler must receive them in minimal quantity.
The toddler must receive the dairy products 2 servings per day. Their diet must consist of Milk, Yogurt, cheese, paneer. It is not mandatory to serve all the dairy products in a day. One day offer foods prepared by cheese and the other day choose other dairy product.
Fruits & Vegetables
Include two to three servings of fruits and vegetables in their diet. Also, include leafy vegetables in their diet. Make sure that all the fruits and vegetables are washed properly before use. Try to introduce all the foods and vegetables to them at the early age only because once they are grown up it will be easier to eat every vegetable and fruit.
Grains, Cereals & Pulses
The toddler must receive 5 to 6 servings of grains, cereals & pulses. Include whole grains which are healthier when compared to processed grains. By using a wide variety of grains, cereals & pulses in their diet you can make your toddler food interesting. Pigeon pea, red lentils, black gram are protein-rich foods.
The nutritious food for babies up to one year of age is mothers milk. Babies with 0 to 1 year should consume more mother milk. After your baby finishes her 6 months of age start to feed them with sugarless, homemade juices. Introduce porridge to them. You can prepare wide varieties of porridge-like rice porridge, wheat porridge, oats porridge, rice mixed with grams porridge. The best food for babies after mother milk is porridge.
Toddlers who crossed one year of age and has the teeth to chew must be given solids like boiled vegetables, small pieces of fruits. If the toddler doesn’t have teeth provide them with fruit purees and vegetable purees.
Toddler food ideas(vegetarian) from breakfast to dinner
Early morning start their daily routine with a cup of milk.
Breakfast 8:00 to 9:00 AM
Breakfast must always be healthy, less oil, low-fat food. Idli, Dosa, Chapati, Upma, Oatmeal, Oats Upma, Rava Jawa, Daliya can be provided to the toddler.
Mid-Snacks or Juices 11:00 AM
11:00 clock snack should always be lighter because they should also consume lunch. They love having fruits that are chopped into small pieces. You can also offer them homemade juices like orange juice, pineapple juice, watermelon juice, mango juice. Include crackers or puffed rice at snack time.
Lunch 12:30 to 1:30 PM
Include one vegetable curry, dal and plain rice in small quantities to them. Providing them with different kichidi will make their lunch more interesting. kichidi mixed with rice and moong dal, kichidi mixed with red lentils and a few vegetables can be prepared. To look more colourful lunch prepare rice by including all the vegetables which they love.
Evening Snacks 4:00 to 4:30 PM
At evening time they must consume one cup of milk along with biscuits or bread or sandwich. To make milk tastier introduce milkshakes to them – like dates milkshake, apple milkshake or banana milkshake.
Dinner 7:30 to 8:30 PM
For dinner, you can give tomato rice, vegetable bath, kichidis as mentioned above or ghee rice with boiled vegetables. Few toddlers even love to have idli at dinner time.
At the top of all, keep your toddler always active away from the phone. Don’t disturb their daily routine. Play with them to be happy and healthy.
