Anaemia.

What is aneamia?

Anaemia refers to a condition where a person’s body contains less than required red blood cells. Anaemia may also be caused due to the absence of haemoglobin in cells. Haemoglobin is the oxygen- carrying component of the human blood.

One of the most common cause of anaemia universally, is believed to be the deficiency of iron in a human body.

Effect of anaemia.

Anaemia leads to the shortage of oxygen- rich blood in the body. As a result, the person suffering from anaemia may experience fatigue, dizziness, feel tire, lazy and short of breath.

Causes of anaemia.

Some of the main causes of anaemia include-

  • Excessive blood loss

Heavy bleeding during periods or wounds, cancers or ulcers etc. may lead to anaemia.

  • Iron deficiency.

Iron helps the bone marrow in the production of haemoglobin. Inadequate intake of iron leads to improper construction of haemoglobin. This may also lead to anaemia.

  • Chronic diseases.

Any chronic health disease may lead to anaemia.

  • Long lasting kidney problems.

People suffering from long- lasting kidney disease may suffer from this problem. This is due to the the lack of erythropoietin hormone produced by kidney.

  • Pregnancy.

Increased fluid and water rates of body during pregnancy leads to dilution of the blood.

  • Poor diet.

Like every other disease, anaemia is also caused due to the lack of proper intake of vitamins and nutrients.

  • Alcohol.

Excessive intake of alochol leads to malfunctioning of the bone marrow. This eventually leads to the lack of haemoglobin in the body. Hence, excessive alcohol also causes blood deficiency.

Prevention of anaemia.

The main causes of it include deficiency of red blood cells or haemoglobin or iron in the body. Hence, prevention measures include things that will help you out in keeping your body filled up with sufficient amount of all these things.

  • Proper diet.

Always stick to healthy and balanced diet plan. Eat food rich in iron such as green vegetables, tofu, met, beans etc. consume items rich in vitamins and minerals such as vitamin-C rich food items.

  • Limit the consumption of alcohol.
  • Avoid drinking tea or coffee with or just before/ after your meals as it may absorb iron of your meal.
  • If you are suffering from heavy bleeding during periods, in such a case, consult a doctor as soon as possible.
  • During pregnancy, give proper attention on your diet. Always consume sufficient nutrients and vitamins. Consult a gynecologist, start taking iron supplements and prenatal vitamins tablets.
